ThermiSmooth

What is ThermiSmooth ™?

ThermiSmooth ™ is a non-invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency to improve skin laxity. It stimulates collagen production and tightens skin by using temperature controlled radiofrequency energy. It is very effective for tightening problem areas, like those around the eyes, mouth, neck, and forehead by delivering precise heating to the skin’s surface. Treatments are gentle and typically feel like a warm massage.

 Who is the typical patient?

ThermiSmooth ™ is typically for patients who want to improve fine lines and wrinkles without any recovery or downtime. The typical treatment areas are wrinkles around and under the eyes, as well as lines around the mouth, forehead, and neck.

Approximately how long does a treatment take?

The length of time varies, depending on which areas and how many areas of the face are being treated.  Your appointment will typically last approximately 60 minutes.

How does ThermiSmooth work?

A small amount of gel is first applied to the treatment area.  A specific target temperature is set and the hand piece is moved across the area gently in a sweeping or circular pattern while gradually heating up the skin surface. As the skin heats up to the targeted temperature, the computer automatically adjusts the energy output to ensure precision of heating.  A small zone is treated to achieve the goal of sustained heating to the target tissues.  Treatments are repeated several times to achieve the desired cosmetic result.  Heating of the skin to the target temperature induces skin tightening by collagen contraction and remodeling, as well as long term stimulation of collagen production.

Is there any downtime?

There is minimal downtime and full activities can be resumed the same day.  The skin may be slightly pink after treatment, though this resolves quickly within 2 to 24 hours.

How long before a patient see results?

Most patients will see some results after the first treatment with full results developing over a course of 2 to 12 months after a series of 3-4 treatments.  For optimal results, these treatments are given 2-3 weeks apart. In the photos below, you can see the results after three treatments. She had improvements in the wrinkles around the eyes, improvements in the skin of the upper eyelids, and better brow position.

How long do the results last?

Results may last up to 1-2 years, but this depends on many factors such as severity of condition, age, hydration, skin care regimen, activity, sun exposure, etc.

Does it hurt?

There is a potential for very mild discomfort during the heating of the treatment areas.  However, no anesthesia or pre-medication is required, and there is no post-procedure pain.  Patient feedback with the nurse is necessary during the procedure.

Who performs the treatments?

At the Nakatsui Dermasurgery Centre, we only allow Registered Nurses to perform ThermiSmooth ™ treatments.
