Facial veins are permanent dilations of the small superficial blood vessels on the face. Regular, long term exposure to the sun and wind are the most common causes of facial veins. Heredity, hormones, disease, and excessive alcohol may also be contributing factors.
Facial vein treatments may include true lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) devices (which are often mistakenly referred to as lasers). At our laser skin care clinic in Edmonton, we use a variety of lasers and photofacial IPL devices for the management of blood vessels and we can help you choose which one might be the best for your type of blood vessels.
1. V-beam Pulsed Dye Laser
2. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
3. Cutera Long-Pulsed 1064 nm Laser
Revolutionary new laser technology has made it possible to remove these blood vessels safely without leaving a scar. Some lasers break the tiny vessels into fragments which are removed by the body’s natural cleansing mechanism leaving behind normal skin. Other lasers may seal the vessels so the blood can no longer flow through them. These lasers can be particularly useful for deeper, larger vessels in the face. At Nakatsui DermaSurgery (formerly Groot DermaSurgery Centre), we have found that the Vbeam pulsed dye laser for smaller vessels, Lumecca IPL for diffuse vessels, and the Cutera laser for larger vessels to be most effective for the management of facial veins.
